Sebaceous Cyst Treatment In Mumbai

Understanding Sebaceous Cyst Removal

A sebaceous cyst (more accurately an epidermoid cyst) is a small, slow-growing lump under the skin, filled with a thick, cheesy material. They commonly appear on the scalp, face, neck, back or other areas. While usually harmless, they can become enlarged, tender or infected — at which point treatment is recommended.

Simply draining a cyst tends to lead to recurrence, because the cyst wall remains. The reliable solution is to remove the entire cyst including its lining. At Megha Surgical Hospital we perform this as a straightforward minor procedure with a neat result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do sebaceous cysts come back after draining?
Draining alone leaves the cyst wall behind, which can refill. Complete removal of the wall greatly reduces recurrence.

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and is comfortable, with only minor soreness during healing.

Removal is advised if the cyst is enlarging, bothersome, cosmetically unwanted or prone to infection.

An infected cyst may be tender, red and discharge pus. The infection is treated first, then the cyst removed completely.

A small scar is usual, but careful technique keeps it minimal and discreet.
